Goddess (2025)

Goddess is a multimedia installation that combines fashion, painting, sculpture, and sound to evoke the power and sensation of an imaginary girl band elevated to goddess status.

Through much research and brainstorming, I made the decision to invent a musical girl band inspired by the music from my youth with their own unique powers. In my mind, I imagined them as goddesses because they were larger than life, and each of them had their own special powers, attributes, outfits, personalities and aesthetics.

This project is also heavily influenced by the new wave, especially its love of vibrant colours, androgyny, geometric patterns, collage aesthetics, layering, retro-futurism, graffiti, deconstructed garments, advocacy for social justice issues, and, of course, black, silver, pink, and red—my iconic colours.

Female new wave icons were tied in with third-wave feminism, which emerged in the early '90s and celebrated individuality, diversity, and the freedom to define femininity in your own way. Although these icons were ahead of their time, pushing boundaries well before this movement took shape, their fearless approach laid the groundwork for it. That's exactly the energy I bring into my work- each goddess I created reflects that same spirit of rebellion, strength, and unapologetic self-expression.

The final elements of my installation include five large painted goddesses on PVC sheeting, a wearable artwork that represents the main singer of the band, and a song I created and sang that plays within the space.
