Odyssey developed through experimenting with symbolism, spirituality, mythology, and sculptural wearable art. Inspired by themes of transformation, risk, and the emotional tension between fantasy and reality, the work evolved into an immersive installation that combines handcrafted materials, symbolic storytelling, and theatrical presentation.

concept development

Initial sketch, illustration, and experimentation explored symbolism connected to spirituality, transformation, mythology, risk, and punk culture. The angel figure gradually developed as a symbol of both protection and religion, combining handcrafted materials with references to celestial imagery, music culture, and personal reflection.

Template Hand crafted Metal Wings

Waxed Wings

The wings were developed through sketch templates exploring feather shapes, structure, and movement before constructing the final handcrafted metal wings. Calico fabric was cut into feather shapes and singed at the edges, inspired by the myth of Icarus and ideas of artistic risk and transformation. Symbolic text connected to spirituality, the supernatural, music, and fashion culture was handwritten onto the feathers with a fabric marker, sealed with candle wax to create a realistic texture, and hand-sewn onto the metal wing structure. The completed wings were attached to the mannequin using cable ties as part of the final sculptural installation.

surface design & textile development

Different fabrics were wrapped and layered around the metal mannequin and hand-stitched to create a sculptural wearable art. Hand-painting, stitched and glued embellishments, tims, printed photographic images, and mixed-media materials were added to build texture and contrast between softness and strength. The layering of materials and symbolic details helped creste a theatrical and expressive visual style inspired by spirituality, fashion, and punk and rock culture.

installation & presentation

For the final installation, the sculptural wearable artwork was displayed in an immersive gallery environment, with theatrical lighting and an atmospheric presentation. Spotlighting enhanced the symbolic qualities of the work, allowing the audience to move around the sculpture and experience the installation from multiple perpectives.
